Personnel from the Marine Pollution Studies Laboratory at Granite
Canyon collected seasurface temperature (SST) data daily, or as
their schedule permitted. The temperatures were recorded in
degrees Celcius to the nearest tenth of a degree. The Project
plotted the monthly average temperature.

Project personnel recorded the SST and the temperature at depth
when using SCUBA to perform fish counts. The temperatures were
recorded in degrees Celcius to the nearest tenth of a degree using
VWRbrand total immersion mercury filled general purpose
thermometers. Each thermometer had a range of 35 to 50$C, with
one division per $C and was enclosed in a tubular PVC housing.
Thermometers were individually calibrated in the laboratory and
each housing was labeled with a correction factor.

The Project bought and began using a SEABIRD SBE19 conductivitytemperaturedepth probe (CTD) early in 1992. Time series were
begun at stations adjacent to research sites in Monterey Bay.
Casts were also made in association with a series of oceanographic
cruises that were conducted in cooperation with Moss Landing Marine
Laboratory.
