Abstract:
This layer contains polygon features of Ecological Units for the state of California as described by ECOMAP (1993),.. "Ecological types are classified and ecological units are mapped based on associations of those biotic and environmental factors that directly affect or indirectly express energy, moisture, and nutrient gradients which regulate the structure and function of ecosystems. These factors include climate, physiography, water, soils, air, hydrology, and potential natural communities."
Purpose:
Used for National Forest planning and assessment and other natural resource applications.

Updated the attributes for three polygons in the Northeast portion of the EcoregionsCalifornia layer near the Modoc NF.  The attributes for the three Surprise Valley polygons had been mistakenly attributed as High Desert-Wetlands (342Bi).  The Modoc NF discovered the error and the polygons have been changed back to the correct label of Surprise Valley (342Ba).

Updated EcoregionsCalifornia94_1 with EcoMap07*

Buffered the California State boundary**  to 30 miles out along all sides, and used this buffered layer to clip EcoMap07.  Added polygons from EcoMap07 to EcoregionsCalifornia94_1 that were not previously in the layer.  These additional polygons were along the North and East edge between the State boundary and the 30 mile buffer.  These polygons were added to make sure no data was lost along the edges of the State boundary.  Additionally, three island boundaries were updated in the Southwest.  Of the original polygons in EcoregionsCalifornia94_1, attributes in 40 of the polygons were updated to match changes in EcoMap07.  

Updated polygons for the following three Channel Islands:
Santa Rosa - Got island boundary from cinms_py*** (inside buffer)
Anacapa - Got island boundary from cinms_py (inside buffer)
San Clemente - Got island boundary from California State Boundary
